Session 1: PECO STEM Trips!

The last few days have been so intense we haven't had a chance to check in. From The Franklin Institute, seeing the Phillies play, going to Mount Adventure and Hershey Park we captured some great photos and made some even better memories.

The sports room at The Franklin Institute was funny and fun because some people were going the wrong way on the rock-climbing wall. The jumping game was funny because people didn’t jump high at all and I was able to get 50 inches off the ground, more than even the people who did jump really high. Many of the exhibits were not working so people had to imagine that they worked, but we still had fun.  Last, a lot of people kept getting dizzy from the spinning ride. –Stanford L.

The electricity exhibit of the Franklin Institute was our favorite part for me.  What I liked most was that PECO was a partner of the exhibit. In the electricity exhibit there were five groups and all five went into a dance area and jumped around to make an electric noise. Unfortunately,  it was broken when we did all that jumping and dancing.  As soon as you walk onto the exhibit you can see PECO’s logo on the wall. We used the hand choker which has you put your hand on it to measure the electric currents in your body. Last, we put are hands on a shocker once again, but a different one and we were able to make a light go on and off. –Dominic Y-Davis

When we were at the Franklin Institute my favorite exhibit was the brain. The cell in the brain is called the brain cell. The brain tell your legs to move by sending them a signal. There was also a nerve room where you can climb around inside. Last there was a machine that showed all the tissues and cells that are inside your brain. -Darrell W.

The math teacher Mr. Waples decided to have fun yet some kids thought the activity was dangerous. The Amazing race is what was on his mind. Most of the kids thought he was crazy. Some were jumping of the wall. I am still apprehensive but I’m going with it. The Amazing race is a competition where people have to solve riddles and activities as a team. At The Franklin Institute the sports center looked like the big attraction. Almost all the sports imaginable were there. I tried the soccer game on all-star and I think the game is rigged. Lots of people liked the wheelchair racing. I can’t wait to go back again. –Jesse B.

Slurpee Day!

On 7/14/14 we went to the Phillies game and it was fun because two people caught a baseball. The people who caught the baseballs were Aaron and Parris. I almost caught a baseball but someone smacked it out of my hand. We all called the player’s name to throw the ball at us. We were also shown on the big screen TV twice. We brought the Phillies good luck and they won the game 6-2. Jimmy Rollins had made a home run for the Phillies and the Phillies gave us mini baseball bats as souvenirs! –Stanford L.

It took us 2 hours to get to Hershey Park. Most of the time everyone was asleep. When we got there we walked together into the park. Then we went ahead and split into groups. My group first rode Fahrenheit, which is a roller coaster that goes straight up and throws you into a whole lot of flips. Next, we went to the water park where every one met up in the wave pool. Everyone kept on bumping into each other because of the waves. Then when it was time to leave we went to Red Robin and had cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches and fries. It was a great trip and everyone went to sleep on the ride back to the dorms. –Darrell W.

On Saturday we went to Mount Adventure in Harrisburg.  It was 2 hours away. When we first got there we started to get on rides. The rides were the zip lines, the bumper boats, the ski lift, and the Ogo Ball. The Ogo Ball was filled with a lot of water and we climbed inside to fall down a steep hill. The ski lift took us to the top of the mountain and we got off. We waited until the next seats came to make it back down the mountain to enjoy more rides. - Alaijha M.
