Today during structured free time we made a
banner with Miss. Grace, Miss. Catherine, Camille, Journee and Anna. We made a
banner to take group photos like when we go on field trips. But today we only
put tape on it but tomorrow we’re painting it. We’re putting “2K14 PECO STEM
CAMP REACH HIGHER”. We are putting reach higher because this year goal is to
improve and try harder. –Ciera C.
Today, after lunch, we had structured free
time. We played football and it was so fun! Of course my team lost but our MVP
was Marquez. He got us our one touch down but it’s better then nothing, right? Before
we played football we tossed back and fourth wit Mr. Jim and it was cool
because I finally caught the football. At the end, both teams argued about what
team was the best. Football is so awesome! -Tamye A.
Today
in class we heated oils to see which would melt the fastest. The oils were:
Crisco, olive, canola, and veggie. Crisco was the one that was the hottest it
reached a whopping 141.5 degrees! We were done without any one getting hurt and
that’s always a plus! Most of us loved it but some didn’t. (I loved it ^_^ -Paul
We
started new swimming styles so now we are learning how to go through the
stream. How to make big circles in the water and multiply the speed of how fast
we move in water. So then we learned how to tread water. We also had a longer
free time because we were able to finish up our work pretty fast. The people
knew how to swim except for one camper so we helped them swim. They got to go
swim in the deep end after two days. - Marquez C.
For
the book club we are reading, “Crash” and some of the other campers are reading
“A Wrinkle In Time”. We haven’t read that far into the story but you will get
updates. -Marquez C.
Today,
July 22nd, 2014, in PECO STEM, we learned how to do proportions.
Based upon the show “SHARK TANK” we learned how to split and divide money &
to use it wisely. We learned how to do is over of X over 100. Whatever the
whole number was we would do that number over X & then the number were
multiplying by above 100. At first I couldn’t understand it, but Mr. Waples
slowly explained the process. After all work was finished, we made kool aid. Of
course I was the happiest kid in the room. We measured and weighed how many
spoons of kool aid, and how many spoons of sugar we put into the cup. After
everybody finished there measurements we drank our kool aid. – LaTia W.
Today in PECO STEM class we
learned in the language arts class about many different races. We learned about how people used to dress
their children, used to wash their children and many different things. I
learned a lot of things that describe our race and more. People dressed their
boys in dresses instead of boy clothes because they didn’t have clothes. Many
of the people we were talking about really didn’t shower and ate rotting foods.
Everyone in STEM was like “that weird.” And that was how own STEM class went!
Journee N.
Today in language arts we read a story about a village
of 200 people. They had a different version of the lottery even if it doesn’t
involve money. The lottery in this story is when the 200 people from the
village meet in the center of the town and all the men of the family’s take a
piece of paper out of the big black box and the man who had the big black dot
on his paper his family had to pick a piece of a paper out the big black box.
Whichever one of his family members that had the black dot would get stoned. It
was different because we do it for fun and money but they do it to get rid of
people. - Ciera C.
