Session 1: STEM Reports Day 3 & 4

On July 8, 2014 we made tie-dye shirts that we could keep. Mr. Jess, Mrs. Tira, and Mrs. Stephanie helped us with the shirts. They taught us how to turn to shirt into a circle then poured the dye onto the shirt to make them colorful. Next we put the shirts into the bag so the dye could soak. The shirts will take 24 hours for the tie-dye to dry then we would be able to have our shirts. -Alaijha M.

It was me (Dominic), Stanford, Ar’Ron, Parris on Team 1, and Team 2 had Jesse, Diamante, and Michael. First the score was 4 to 5. Team 1 lost the first round but had good players and worked hard with lots of communication. Team 1 had trouble doing the right thing and putting things together and working on going the right way. If Team 1 had won it would have been a surprise because there were more mentors on their team so it was pretty close for just students. It was extremely fun and everyone enjoyed it. We could tell the mentors were having lots of fun and of course all of us had fun, no one could be mad we supported each other and encouraged each other. –Dominic Y.D.

During free time on July 8th the kids participated in racing. All of the runners were very fast, but two special runners were the fastest. The fastest girl who beat almost all the boys was Diamond Mallory. The fastest boy and the only one who barely beat the speedy Diamond Mallory was Jesse Brittain. If Diamond gets a rematch Jesse says “she might win”. But anything is possible at PECO STEM Camp!

On 7/8/2014 I learned how to blow bubbles under water at the pool. Then I went to the deep end to grab toys rings from under the water. I was the only one that went to the deep side in my group. Also, I collected the most toy rings! Today at the pool Diamante, Michael and I went to the deepest side of the pool, which was 10 ft. So the woman had to teach us how to dive in the pool and I did it right the first time. Also, she allowed us how to try to touch the ground on the deep end. The first time Michael and Diamante had bellied flopped in the pool when they try to dive. Next they did it perfectly and got further than me. The pool was fun when we all learned to dive in -Stanford L. and I approve of my reporting

At PECO STEMcamp on, July 8th 2014 most of the boys played an intense match of indoor football that ended in a draw. But the tiebreaker will be decided soon. Our mentors Mr. Ka’Shawn, Mr.Malcom, and Mr.Denzel helped us learn about sportsmanship. -Jesse B.

On July 9, 2014 in STEM we made a ceviche dish, with the help of Mr. Jim & Mr. Jess. First, we measured out how much seafood and vegetables we would need and mixed it together. Mr. Jim taught us how to cook shrimp without heat. He used lime juice and little pieces of shrimp and put it into the refrigerator. The ceviche dish is made of crab meat, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, lime juice, olive oil, tomato, red onions, and a little pinch of salt mixed together. The ceviche dish tasted like cold pasta salad. My favorite part about this whole lesson was making it, because I could have fun making a fun dish with my friends. –Alaijah M.

One of the clubs we have here at PECO STEM camp is the poetry club. Right now the club is working on emotional poems.  Ar’Ron one of the poetry club members claims that poetry club is very fun. 2 more members of the club are Lashante, and Sony. The leaders of that club are Mr. Malcolm and Mr. Ka’Shawn. –STEM Computer Club Reporter

My report for 7/9/2014 is on basketball. The mentors taught us new dribble moves and they helped us with our shooting and layups. Others were doing one on ones and we were playing games like “Around the World”. Also we played games with the hula-hoops and played catch with the basketballs. Then at the end we had a shoot around to see who could get the most baskets. I as well as every one else had a whole lot of fun. –Darrell W.

Today, 7/10/2014 we will be visiting The Franklin Institute so stay tuned for more exciting photos and reports!
